Abu Ibrahim Named Heart of America Athletic Trainer of the Year

William Penn Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine Abu Ibrahim has been named the 2024-2025 Heart of America Athletic Conference Athletic Trainer of the Year.

AbuSelected by his peers across the conference, Ibrahim is now in the running for the NAIA’s national award, which will be announced this September.

“I’m incredibly honored to be recognized as Athletic Trainer of the Year by the Heart of America Athletic Conference,” Ibrahim said. “This award is a reflection of the dedication and teamwork of our entire Sports Medicine staff and the unwavering support of the William Penn Athletics community.”

Ibrahim, who rejoined William Penn in 2017 for his second stint, also serves as Chair of the Heart’s Athletic Trainers Committee. In that role, he’s led efforts to clarify and update the league’s medical procedures, improving expectations for host institutions and modernizing outdated policies.

He is also deeply committed to service beyond the campus. Ibrahim served on the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) Ethnic Diversity Advisory Committee from 2020 to 2024 and is currently an Oskaloosa City Council member and board member of Saint Mary of the Hills School in Milton, Massachusetts.
