AT Jason Miller’s 18-Year Commitment to Athlete Care in Lowndes County

For the past 18 years, Jason Miller has been a steady presence on the sidelines of football fields across Columbus and Lowndes County. A licensed Athletic Trainer known for his work with Elite Physical Therapy, Miller has become a familiar face at high school games, treating injuries, making on-the-spot decisions, and building trust within the community.

Miller’s résumé spans the Columbus Municipal and Lowndes County School Districts, Monroe County schools, and Heritage Academy. He also previously served as the Head Athletic Trainer at Mississippi University for Women.

His commitment extends well beyond game day—covering practices, traveling to away games, and responding when a school lacks medical coverage.

“Being on the field is probably my favorite because you have to be able to make split-second decisions,” Miller said. “Is it an emergency? Who do I call? What’s the next step?”

His ability to quickly connect families with the right care brings peace of mind.

“It’s kind of an assurance,” he explained. “I can get them in to see a doctor probably tomorrow morning. Let me make a text or a phone call.”

New Hope football head coach Allen Glenn emphasized Miller’s impact:

“The life of a head coach with a good athletic trainer becomes a lot easier. Jason loves what he does and cares for the kids. I wish all schools could have that.”

Miller’s influence now stretches into mentorship. Heritage Academy senior Kaden Avery, inspired by Miller during his recovery from a fractured elbow, now interns with him and plans to study kinesiology.

“Ultimately for me,” Miller said, “it’s not just how they’re taken care of in high school—it’s how they take care of themselves after they leave, so they can be healthier, better people down the road.”
