# Athletic Trainer Dewayne Miller Retires After 30 Years Serving Barren County Student-Athletes

For three decades, Athletic Trainer Dewayne Miller has been a familiar and reassuring presence on the sidelines of Barren County High School athletic events. Whether responding to injuries during games or providing treatment behind the scenes, Miller has spent 30 years helping student-athletes stay healthy and safely return to competition.

<https://glasgownews1.com/2026/05/07/dewayne-miller-honored-for-barren-county-athletic-training-legacy/>Recently recognized by the Barren County Schools Board of Education, Miller is retiring after a career that Athletic Director Warren Cunningham described as invaluable to the school's athletic programs.

*"He's been our Athletic Trainer for the last 30 years," Cunningham said. "He's had such a positive impact on student-athletes, on families, on coaches."*

Throughout his career, Miller's commitment often extended far beyond the normal workday. Cunningham noted that Miller regularly spent evenings, weekends, and extra hours evaluating injuries, providing treatments, and helping athletes recover as safely and quickly as possible.

Like many Athletic Trainers, much of Miller's work happened behind the scenes. While fans may have noticed him sprinting onto a field or court when an athlete was injured, his daily efforts included injury prevention, rehabilitation, evaluations, and ongoing support for student-athletes throughout the year.

His dedication earned the respect of athletes, coaches, parents, and administrators alike.

*"It's hard to measure all the things that he has meant to our athletic program," Cunningham said.*

As Miller begins retirement, Barren County is saying goodbye to a trusted healthcare professional whose impact reached far beyond wins and losses.
