As the fall sports season unfolds, Athletic Trainer Tyler Harvey is once again a familiar face on the sidelines for the Edon Bombers. A certified Athletic Trainer with Parkview Sports Medicine, Harvey is now in his fourth year supporting Edon’s student-athletes in football, volleyball, cheerleading, cross country, and golf.
Harvey is one of 88 Athletic Trainers serving 40 high schools and five universities through Parkview Sports Medicine across northern Indiana and northwest Ohio.
Parkview’s Athletic Training program, which began in the early 1990s, has grown dramatically — now serving roughly 15,000 high school athletes each year.
“All of our athletic trainers are nationally certified and licensed in the state where they practice,” said Candice Dunkin, director of Parkview Sports Medicine. “They perform evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation for athletes and their injuries, making sure they’re ready to participate.”
Harvey joined Parkview after completing its nationally accredited Athletic Training residency in 2021. When the Edon position opened, he said the small community felt like home.
“It shows the value of having a health care provider in the schools,” Harvey said. “It grows the community and the partnerships between these small towns.”
Through taping ankles, managing rehab programs, and mentoring young athletes, Harvey has found meaning in more than just injury care.
“Many of my students want to go into Athletic Training or PT because I’ve worked with them,” he said. “It’s kind of nice to give back in that way.”
At its heart, Dunkin said, Parkview’s mission is simple:
“We’re there for the best of days—and when injuries happen.”
