"As I'm running up the steps, I'm surveying the scene... taking in information important to me as a clinician."
With temperatures rising quickly, the fan regained consciousness after Foreman took their pulse, provided water, and applied cold towels to their neck. EMS soon arrived to transport the fan for further care.
The fan’s family credits Foreman’s quick response for making a critical difference, but Foreman modestly attributes it to teamwork.
Kara Werner-Sanders, Beacon Health System Athletic Training Coordinator, praised Foreman’s swift actions:
“Erin being there to help that spectator is massive... it’s crucial for student-athlete healthcare and essentially anybody that's around.”
Grateful for the help, the family submitted a recognition to the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) for Foreman’s exemplary behavior, an honor she humbly received.
"I don't take praise very well, but I certainly am blessed to have someone recognize me for what I do every day.”
Werner-Sanders emphasized how rare it is for Athletic Trainers to be recognized:
"We're kind of in the shadows and in the background."
Foreman hopes this recognition shines a light on the vital role ATs play as healthcare providers:
“It’s important to know who we are and what we do.”
