Whitney Young’s life is a blend of spikes, sprints, and snack times. In her first year as an assistant Athletic Trainer for the Winston-Salem State University women’s track and field team, she’s also navigating her first year as a mom.
“I get to still do what I love to do and not miss out on anything with her,” Young said, reflecting on the joy of merging motherhood with her professional passion.
Track practice is split into two sessions based on athletes’ class schedules. While Young attends both, it’s the 4 p.m. session where Beckett joins her after day care. The team has embraced their smallest team member, showering Beckett with attention.
“She likes all the girls, and she’s pretty good at just hanging out,” Young said with a smile.
With Beckett’s father coaching basketball at High Point University, the family balances two collegiate sports schedules with help from a supportive administration.
“My boss has been great about whenever I need to bring her or we need to do anything I could,” said Young, emphasizing how vital that flexibility has been.
As the Rams prepare for the CIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in May, Beckett will likely be there cheering them on—proving that with the right support, Athletic Trainers like Whitney Young can thrive both on and off the field. Read more here!
