Caitlin Clark Calls Pacers Athletic Trainer Ayami Sato the 'GOAT'

When one of basketball’s biggest stars speaks, people listen—and recently, Caitlin Clark had just one word to describe an Athletic Trainer making waves in the NBA.
“GOAT.”
Clark, the Indiana Fever standout and one of the top players in the WNBA, shared that simple but powerful praise for Indiana Pacers assistant Athletic Trainer Ayami Sato after the NBA spotlighted her story on social media.
Sato’s journey hasn’t been easy.
“I was told I can’t do this so many times,” she said. “Maybe let’s try, and then I tried.”
That mindset helped her push past doubt and carve out a role as a key member of the Pacers’ sports medicine staff.
In addition to her role as an assistant Athletic Trainer, Sato also serves as a physical therapist and sports medicine administrator for the team.
Clark isn’t alone in her praise. Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton echoed the sentiment with a “goat” emoji, while others around the team called her “the best.”
It’s a small moment—but a meaningful one.
Recognition like this highlights the growing visibility of Athletic Trainers at the highest levels of sport. While much of their work happens behind the scenes, their impact is felt by the athletes who rely on them every day.
And sometimes, all it takes is one word to say it all. Read the full story here!
