Celebrating National Athletic Training Month!

Articles for Athletic Trainers and News StoriesWe always look forward to March because the month marks National Athletic Training Month, 30 days dedicated to recognizing the indispensable role of Athletic Trainers in our communities.

This year, the theme "From Head to Toe" underscores the comprehensive care Athletic Trainers provide, ensuring athletes perform safely and at their best.

We decided to dig around and find a few different schools and see how they plan to honor their ATs and showcase the impact of these professionals!

Let's get started!

Sarah Hensley-1First up is Sarah Hensley, at Allegany College of Maryland. According to the school, she shines as a beacon of unwavering commitment and exceptional skill for her school. Which is high praise indeed...

Sarah's broad scope of practice covers everything from concussion management to foot ailments — so, from head to toe? — embodying the spirit of National Athletic Training Month! (yeah, we had to do it...)

But seriously, her commitment to ongoing education and holistic health promotion really does underscore the critical role Athletic Trainers play in student wellness.

Allegany College has enthusiastically extended a heartfelt wave of gratitude to Sarah (as well as to all her peers around the country) for the tireless effort made to safeguard athlete health and enhancing performance.

Gene and AshleyAnd now, let's jump over to West Orange High School in New Jersey. There, they are celebrating the dynamic duo of Gene Palatianos and Ashley Sivo, for their passion and dedication!

With decades of combined experience, Gene and Ashley have been lauded for their contributions beyond the field, including their engaging social media presence that highlights the quirks of the profession.

They like to show off those nuances of life as an Athletic Trainer on Instagram, from the legendary "best ice" to AED that is oddly always by Ashley's side.

And, no, you can't ride in their golf cart

Their work underscores the vital behind-the-scenes efforts required to keep athletes safe, exemplifying the resilience and spirit celebrated during National Athletic Training Month.

Jen SalmonAnd finally... Marshall County High School is spending the month shining their spotlight on Jen Salmon, who is marking her nineteenth year in athletic training.

Jen's invaluable work also spans injury prevention, emergency care, and recovery, playing a crucial role in the well-being of athletes, coaches, and parents alike.

Her dedication extends beyond the sports field, as she monitors weather conditions for safe practice and game environments and fosters lasting relationships with the students she serves.

National Athletic Training Month offers a moment to reflect on the critical, often unseen work of Athletic Trainers in schools across the nation.

The dedication of these professionals to "From Head to Toe" care profoundly impacts our sports world for kids today. Their commitment ensures that these student-athletes remain healthy, safe, and ready to tackle challenges, both on and off the field.

Thank you for all that you do!
