Now the athletic training supervisor at Valley View Hospital, she oversees trainers across the county while remaining devoted to Glenwood Springs’ athletes.
Early in her career, Barton served multiple schools, including Rifle and Roaring Fork, but ultimately focused on Glenwood Springs to offer more personalized care.
"It became apparent we needed to offer more personalized care."
Her dedication has profoundly impacted the community, both physically and emotionally.
"The hardest part isn’t always the injury itself — it’s the psychological toll it takes."
Athletic Director Craig Denney praises Barton’s insight and influence:
"She’s professional, up-to-date, and always wants to take care of kids. For our kids, she’s a sounding board."
Beyond treating injuries, Barton teaches sports medicine at Glenwood Springs, inspiring students like Cody Derby, who now works with Cirque du Soleil.
Despite long, 50-60 hour weeks, Barton’s commitment remains unwavering.
"I love the kids. That really, truly is what keeps me going."
When she’s not working, Barton enjoys spending time with her sons, supporting her youngest’s dream of playing college baseball.
Denney hopes Barton will stay on for years:
"She’s exactly what you ask for in an athletic trainer. I hope she stays with us until she decides to retire."
For Barton, retirement is not on the horizon:
"When we talk about retirement, I just laugh. I’m going to be here for a while longer, and I love it."
