Erin Sierer Blazes New Trail as Timberwolves' First Female Head Athletic Trainer
Erin Sierer has made history as the first woman to be named Head Athletic Trainer for the Minnesota Timberwolves, marking a significant milestone in her distinguished career.
Entering her sixth season with the Timberwolves, Sierer previously served as the team’s Assistant Athletic Trainer and brings a wealth of experience from roles with the U.S. Army and Marine Corps Special Operations, Rutgers University, and the San Diego Fleet.
Sierer’s journey began with a childhood ankle injury that introduced her to the world of athletic training.
“I met my first athletic trainer and thought, ‘This is what I want to do.’”
Her passion led her to earn a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Duke University, and she has since dedicated her career to helping athletes return to peak performance.
“For me, the most rewarding part is seeing someone excel after helping them recover from their lowest point.”
As she steps into her new role, Sierer remains committed to empowering young women in sports. Reflecting on her own career, she emphasizes the importance of visibility and mentorship.
“Seeing women in these roles makes it real for the next generation.”
Her advice to aspiring Athletic Trainers is clear:
“Continue to move forward; take that next job that’s going to open up a new skillset. Take that new job that moves you out of your comfort zone and brings you to a city that you’re like, ‘I never thought I’d be here,’ to get to that final point. Keep moving forward. And when you get there, look back and help somebody else pave that same path. Give back. Bring them forward.”
Sierer’s journey, marked by relentless forward motion, serves as an inspiration not only to those in the athletic training field but to anyone striving to achieve their dreams.
