From Injury to Inspiration - Meet Athletic Trainer Cassidee Elquist
One of our favorite things in the world is when the news media drops a spotlight on an Athletic Trainer. And when they do... we try to share those stories! The Baker City Herald did just that with Cassidee Elquist.
She's an athletic trainer for Saint Alphonsus Rehabilitation Services, and plays a crucial role in Baker High School's sports program in Oregon.
Working 40 hours a week, Cassidee dedicates 30 hours to the school, providing immediate injury response, concussion diagnosis, rehabilitation, and prevention.
Elquist, who suffered her first ACL injury at 13, was inspired by her own sports injuries and a curiosity about the medical staff rushing out to injured players in NFL games.
She pursued her passion, earning degrees from BYU-Hawaii and Southern Utah University, with experience in various sports team rotations.
"I’m the first line of defense for the kiddos with injuries," Elquist says, emphasizing her role in emergency response and injury care.
Her approach focuses on preventive care, observing athletes' forms to preemptively address potential issues.
Elquist conducts annual baseline concussion testing for athletes, a vital tool for assessing concussions during the season.
Her fall schedule included managing injuries for volleyball, soccer, and football, and she continues to support winter sports.
"If kids come to me, we treat it before it becomes a problem," she states, highlighting her proactive approach to sports medicine and athlete care.
