When Weatherford College's sports medicine program grew, Athletic Trainer Ryleigh Hyles found that some of the processes that once worked weren't keeping up.
The college added five sports in five years and nearly 100 athletes.
Documentation involved multiple steps.
Physicals had to be scanned, renamed and uploaded individually.
Tracking compliance sometimes meant Excel sheets and printed papers covering Ryleigh's desk.
Her advice to other programs?
“It doesn't have to be hard. It is okay to have a system that simplifies things.”
Weatherford switched to the Healthy Roster EMR this year, and Ryleigh says she's already documenting injuries better, keeping up with follow-ups and spending more attention on athletes instead of making sure treatments get written down and logged.
And when asked what she'd tell another NJCAA school considering Healthy Roster, Ryleigh didn't hesitate.
“I would say definitely get the demo.”
She says actually seeing the platform and having a Healthy Roster representative walk through what it could do helped sell her on making the switch.
Her bigger point, though, wasn't about software.
Keeping athlete information organized and accessible isn't only a service to the Athletic Trainer, she said. It's a service to the student-athletes, too.
