Jennifer Winningham, a proud Scott County native and Tennessee Tech alumna, is returning to her alma mater as the new head Athletic Trainer and director of sports medicine.
After earning her master’s degree from Louisiana Tech, she began her Athletic Training career at Tennessee Tech, working with women’s soccer and softball. Most recently, she spent 12 years at UNC-Charlotte, where she served as associate head Athletic Trainer and Covid-19 coordinator.
During that time, she worked with several WNBA athletes, including Maya Caldwell, Tiffany Mitchell, and Cierra Burdick.
“God’s timing… It’s never early… It’s never late… It’s on time. Every time,” Winningham wrote on Facebook, reflecting on her return to Tech. “Returning to Tech means the world to me. I have always hoped that some day the opportunity to lead Tennessee Tech Sports Medicine would come and it finally has.”
As head Athletic Trainer, Winningham will oversee care for all Golden Eagle student-athletes and lead a team of assistant Athletic Trainers and a physical therapist.
“I want Tech to have the best sports medicine staff in the Ohio Valley Conference,” she said. “No one has more pride in Tennessee Tech than I do.”
Before officially starting on June 16, Winningham will donate a kidney to longtime colleague Jason Dunavant—another Athletic Trainer she met 15 years ago.
From her family’s deep roots at TTU to her dedication to serving others, Winningham’s homecoming marks a meaningful new chapter for Tennessee Tech Athletics. Read the full story here!
