Back in July, they handed Rogers a rather large trophy for his five decades of working in the field of sports medicine. The award, named after a long-serving Clemson AT, is the association's highest honor.
The Fred W. Hoover award was created to recognize members who have committed to improving the field and given a lifetime of service.
He diagnosed and treated injuries and offered tips on preventative measures, but he also handed out sound advice on all matters, not just those related to sports.
Rogers had plenty of athletic experience to draw on as he played defensive back for the South Carolina State football team and sprinted for their track team.
As the Director of Sports Medicine at Fort Dorchester High School from 1993 to 2023, he mentored students who went on to become ATs, nurses, EMTs, and doctors.
He was an intern and then worked during training camp for the Miami Dolphins from 1970 to 1976.
Rogers also served as S.C. State's head Athletic Trainer from 1974 to 1989, where he implemented their student mentor program.
Thank you for your dedication over the years, Doc! And we're sure all those people you helped thank you, too!
