From courtside evaluations to scaling Maine’s highest peaks, Megan Day has found her calling as an Athletic Trainer at Lincoln Academy, where her passion for sports, health, and mentorship shines.

Originally from North Carolina, Day moved to Richmond, Maine, in second grade and thrived in the town’s athletic culture.

“I always loved to compete,” said Day, who played basketball, soccer, and ran track in high school. After initially pursuing pharmacy at the University of New England, Day discovered athletic training and “fell in love with it.”

Day became Lincoln Academy’s first full-time Athletic Trainer in 2015, developing a robust program that blends injury prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation. Her day involves teaching fitness classes and CPR certification, covering practices and games, and helping athletes recover from injuries ranging from fractures to concussions.

“Athletic Trainers are healthcare professionals,” she emphasizes, noting the rigorous education, certification, and continuing education required for the role.

Her dedication extends beyond technical skills.

“I see athletes on their best days, celebrating accomplishments, and on their worst, navigating season-ending injuries,” she shared. “After all these years, my athletes are like my own kids.”

Day’s influence inspires future generations, with some students pursuing careers in athletic training.

“It’s incredible to see athletes push their limits, from struggling with pushups to breaking school records.”

When not at Lincoln Academy, Day and her husband, Matt, embrace the outdoors, climbing 12 of Maine’s 4,000-foot peaks with Saddleback and Mt. Abraham next on their list.

“We’re always looking for the next adventure,” she said with a smile.

For Day, the perfect balance of mentorship, athletic care, and adventure makes her work a lifelong passion.

“A good day is when nobody gets hurt and I get to watch sports,” she said. “That’s a good day for everyone.”
