In his first season with the Fort Wayne TinCaps, Head Athletic Trainer Micah Gerhart has been named the 2025 Midwest League Athletic Trainer of the Year, the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society (PBATS) announced Wednesday.

The prestigious award honors one athletic trainer from each of Minor League Baseball’s 14 leagues and recognizes excellence in athlete care, injury prevention, and sports medicine leadership.

Gerhart, 33, joined the TinCaps this spring after a season with the Padres’ Dominican Summer League team and seven years with the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles—including a Super Bowl LII championship in 2018.

A graduate of Olivet Nazarene University, he quickly earned the trust of TinCaps players and staff for his tireless work ethic and steady presence throughout the grueling 132-game season.

“This award wouldn’t be possible without the support of my associate Tomo Hyodo and the TinCaps coaching staff and front office,” said Gerhart. “I am blessed to be surrounded and supported by amazing coworkers.”

PBATS President Nick Kenney praised Gerhart and his peers for their exceptional impact behind the scenes.

“This year’s winners represent the very best of our profession—bringing unmatched dedication, expertise, and care to their athletes every single day,” said Kenney. “They embody the standard of excellence that defines PBATS.”

Gerhart’s recognition continues a streak for the San Diego Padres organization—marking the fourth straight season a Padres-affiliated Athletic Trainer has won a league Trainer of the Year award. With this honor, Gerhart is now eligible for PBATS’ national Minor League Athletic Trainer of the Year award.
