Misty Motter Named Head Athletic Trainer at Westminster College

Westminster College has announced the promotion of longtime staff member Misty Motter to Head Athletic Trainer, effective August 1. Motter succeeds Shaun Toomey, who is retiring after 38 years of dedicated service.

“Misty has served as an integral member of our staff over the last 20-plus years,” said Jason Lener, Westminster’s Director of Athletics. “Her experience, compassion, and commitment to Westminster's student-athletes make her the ideal person to lead our sports medicine efforts.”

MotterIn her new role, Motter will oversee the daily operations of the training room, coordinate with physicians and the sports medicine team, and manage the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries for all student-athletes.

She will lead a staff that includes assistant Athletic Trainers Jillian Herrick and Meghan Hawthorne, with a fourth position currently open.

Motter joined Westminster in 2004 as an assistant trainer and became an associate Athletic Trainer in 2006. She has also served as an adjunct professor in Youngstown State University’s Master of Athletic Training program.

“I would like to thank Jason and the athletics staff for this opportunity,” said Motter. “I am excited to lead the sports medicine department in making a difference in an athlete’s life.”

Motter is BOC-certified and licensed in Pennsylvania, with certifications in CPR, AED, First Aid, Basic Life Support, and Mental Health First Aid. She holds memberships with NATA, CATS, and PATS.

She earned her bachelor’s degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and her master’s from Westminster. Motter lives in Enon Valley, Pa., with her husband, Mathew, and their two sons, Nolan and Noah.
