Morgan StateBella Bradford: Advancing Representation in Athletic Training

Bradford, an Athletic Trainer at Morgan State, has been selected to participate in the HBCU Combine at the Allstate HBCU Legacy Bowl on February 22, 2025. She currently works with the Football and Acrobatics & Tumbling teams, bringing her expertise and passion to the university’s student-athletes.

Earning her bachelor's degree in exercise science from Southern Utah University before obtaining a master’s in Athletic Training at Oregon State University, Bradford has navigated challenges as a minority in the profession.

"Athletic training is a very small community, and people who look like me aren't widely represented, especially at higher levels of sports. That was a big challenge," Bradford shared.

Despite these obstacles, she remains steadfast in her mission.

"Facing yourself, having confidence, and leaning on your support system is essential," she said.

DaVonna Cola: Leadership in Athletic Training

Cola, who served as the Head Football Athletic Trainer at Morgan State, recently attended the East-West Shrine Bowl in Arlington, Texas, on January 30, 2025. With eight years of experience, she has been committed to mentoring future HBCU Athletic Trainers.

Reflecting on her experience at the Shrine Bowl, Cola noted:

"The early morning practices and nightly treatment sessions made it feel like fall camp all over again."

As she moves forward in her career, Cola encourages students to seek opportunities:

"Take initiative, apply for internships, and never forget your ‘why.’"
