"It’s nice coming back home and helping the kids from Acushnet and Fairhaven and surrounding towns. We’re all one big family."
Her journey began with a bachelor's degree from Lasell College and a master's from Bridgewater State University, leading her to her third year as Fairhaven High School's Certified Athletic Trainer.
Macedo's day is filled with prepping athletes for practices or games, prioritizing sports with higher injury risks. Her presence at both home and away games is crucial, especially during intense games.
"There are some days when multiple sports are being played, and I have to be in attendance at the highest-priority game."
Reflecting on the Blue Devils' Super Bowl win, Macedo shared:
"The game was surreal... You could tell their hearts were in it, they wanted to do it for the town, for the coaches and the seniors, and it was awesome seeing their energy unfold out on the field."
Macedo's passion for sports and medicine found a perfect match in athletic training. Despite the challenges, such as enduring cold games, the rewards are plentiful.
"Especially seeing the smiles on the kids' faces after winning the championship, knowing you helped to get them to where they are now."
Her commitment to keeping the players healthy, emphasizing regular stretching and hydration, played a significant role in the team's success.
The gratitude expressed by parents, coaches, and players themselves underscores her impact:
"I don’t do it to be thanked... but they do show their appreciation toward me, and that’s always a nice perk."
As the Fairhaven Blue Devils savor their championship glory, Macedo's contributions stand out as a vital ingredient in their recipe for success, proving that behind every great team is a dedicated Athletic Trainer who is just as much a part of the family.
