During National Athletic Training Month, the spotlight turns to the professionals working behind the scenes to keep athletes safe, and in New Jersey, that impact reaches far beyond the sidelines.
Through the work of the Athletic Trainers’ Society of New Jersey (ATSNJ), these healthcare professionals collaborate with legislators and organizations like the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) to implement life-saving measures.
“Throughout March, and every month, we thank athletic trainers for their service,” said Senator Patrick Diegnan. “As a member of the State Legislature, I’ve been honored to work closely with the ATSNJ… to implement health and safety policies for our student-athletes.”
Those policies address some of the most serious risks in sports, including sudden cardiac arrest, traumatic brain injuries, and exertional heat stroke. New Jersey has become a national leader in athlete safety, with initiatives such as mandatory AED access, emergency action plans, concussion protocols, and heat acclimatization standards, many of them first-of-their-kind.
Behind each policy is the expertise of Athletic Trainers, whose work spans prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions.
With one of the highest rates of Athletic Trainer employment in schools nationwide, New Jersey continues to set the standard for comprehensive athlete care.
This National Athletic Training Month, it’s clear: the work of Athletic Trainers isn’t just important—it’s life-saving. Read more here!
