March is National Athletic Training Month, a time to recognize the professionals who keep athletes safe, and at Park Center High School, few embody that mission more than Athletic Trainer Dan Miller.

Now in his 17th year with the school, Miller—known affectionately as “Trainer Dan”—has become a trusted presence for student-athletes. His journey began as a multi-sport athlete before discovering athletic training in college, a path that kept him connected to sports in a meaningful way.

“I think subconsciously [playing sports] exposed me to the ideas of athletic training,” Miller said. “It felt like something that kept me connected to sports… because I wasn’t necessarily interested in coaching.”

“I just care a lot more about the success of kids that get hurt,” he said.

That mindset has led to initiatives beyond injury care, including efforts to ensure athletes have access to food before practices and games.

“There are kids in our community who struggle to get the food they need… so I’ve worked on some initiatives to fill that gap,” Miller explained.

For Miller, the most rewarding part of the job isn’t the sideline action—it’s the one-on-one moments helping athletes navigate injuries and life challenges.

“Each kid is different, each case is different… It’s some of the most important work that I can do.”

This National Athletic Training Month, Miller’s impact is a reminder that Athletic Trainers do far more than treat injuries—they help shape lives. Read the full story here
