New Faces in the Field: Career Moves for Two Texas Athletic Trainers
At Healthy Roster, we like to see Athletic Trainers taking advantage of new opportunities, and here are a few new hires we wanted to share!
Wiley University has welcomed Jenny Spearman as its new Head Athletic Trainer, effective August 1. Spearman brings over a decade of experience to the Wildcats, including six years at Tatum High School and previous roles at Texas and Kilgore Colleges. A Marshall native with deep ties to Wiley, Spearman said:
“Four of my athletes attend Wiley… I live in Marshall and am very familiar with the area.”
She’ll work alongside fellow Athletic Trainer Matthew Walters to cover the university’s 13 varsity sports.
“By bringing in Matthew and Jenny, I believe this will create a working environment where they will feel comfortable and thrive,” said Athletic Director Rafael Gonzalez.
Meanwhile, the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) announced the hiring of Valeria Gonzalez as an Assistant Athletic Trainer.
Gonzalez, a Rio Grande Valley native, will oversee football and swimming & diving for the Vaqueros.
“I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity… This role allows me to continue learning and growing while applying everything I’ve gained from my different experiences,” she said.
Gonzalez recently earned her master’s degree in athletic training from Texas State and has worked across a range of sports including football, soccer, and baseball.
“She impressed us with her passion for the profession,” said Associate AD for Sports Medicine Steven Kraus.
We love to see passionate professionals like Jenny and Val continuing to shape the future of Athletic Training in Texas — and beyond!
