In a significant move to promote women's health care, Northwest Missouri State Athletics is joining forces with Christy Tapps, an Athletic Trainer and Mosaic Medical Center of Maryville Women's Health Ambassador.

Their collaborative effort aims to educate and advocate for quality women's health care in their communities.

Aligned with the 2024 St. Francis Foundation Gala, Northwest is committed to "Aim Higher" in their endeavor to enhance a local women's health clinic and the comprehensive care it offers.

Christy Tapps, who has been an AT at NMSU for eight years, is at the forefront of this initiative.

Employed through Mosaic Life Care, Tapps brings a personal passion to this cause, stemming from her own experiences with pregnancy and motherhood.

"Throughout my unexpected journey, I realized how crucial it is for women to prioritize their health."

Her path to motherhood was fraught with challenges, including two miscarriages before the birth of her sons, Landon and Carter. The care she received at Mosaic Medical Center and from Dr. Jane Dawson in Maryville was pivotal, offering personalized support during her high-risk pregnancy.

Tapps believes that her experiences can help others, especially in addressing pregnancy loss, a topic she feels is often overlooked.

Tapps's approach to her work with student-athletes at Northwest Missouri State University mirrors her beliefs in women's health care. She emphasizes treating athletes holistically—physically, mentally, and emotionally.

This project, she hopes, will provide additional resources focusing on the overall well-being of female student-athletes.

The St. Francis Foundation will channel funds raised from the "Aim Higher" Gala to improve women's healthcare services. This includes building a new women's health clinic and enhancing existing services.

For Tapps, this cause is deeply personal, driven by her own experiences and the desire to ensure that women and student-athletes do not feel isolated in their health struggles.

Tapps reflected on the impact of this collaborative effort:

"Every woman deserves access to quality health care and resources. This project is not just about healthcare; it's about community support and making a difference in the lives of women."
