Across central Ohio, Athletic Trainers from Ohio State Sports Medicine are making a visible impact—whether sprinting onto the field for an injured high school athlete, or building emergency action plans that keep entire programs safe.
For ATs like McKenna Teague, who serves Hastings Middle School in Upper Arlington, the role is as rewarding as it is essential.
“I love that our team can provide such comprehensive and immediate care for all our athletes,” Teague said. “We are always able to get our athletes seen and cared for in no time at all… as a (future) parent, I know how much relief this brings to families.”
From concussion testing to injury rehabilitation, ATs are trusted first responders and long-term care providers.
“The most rewarding part of the job is being able to be there to assist an athlete throughout the entire injury process,” said Kelsey Newman, AT, at Olentangy Berlin High School. “There is nothing like the moment they are fully recovered and able to return to their sport.”
The team model is what sets Ohio State apart.
“The relationships I have with the sports medicine doctors, physical therapists, and outreach ATs is second to none,” said Eric Travoli, MS, AT. “We all work well together and go beyond to get our student-athletes the care that they need.”
That impact stretches well beyond high schools. Ohio State ATs provide coverage for everything from BalletMet to Pelotonia to tactical athletes in law enforcement and fire departments. It’s proof of what the profession already knows: Athletic Trainers are versatile, trusted, and critical to community health.
