One day. Two games. Two state championships. For Athletic Trainer Kacey Kaelin, it was more than a historic Saturday — it was a career-defining moment.

“It’s been an exciting weekend,” said the 26-year-old Kaelin. “This is probably going to be the highlight of my career. This is one of the best days of my life.”

For the past two years, Kaelin has served as the Athletic Trainer for both Borden and Eastern (Pekin) high schools, a unique dual role made possible through Baptist Health. On Saturday, that shared responsibility turned into something extraordinary.

First, she celebrated on the court with Borden after the Braves defeated Fremont 51-31 in the Class A state championship. Just hours later, she was back in action—this time with Eastern—as they captured the Class 2A title with a win over Oak Hill.

Balancing coverage for two schools six miles apart could have been overwhelming, but Kaelin embraced the challenge.

“At first it was a little challenging, but I got the hang of it pretty quickly,” she said. “It’s a pretty even split.”

Beyond the trophies, Kaelin reflected on what makes both programs special.

“I think just the small community that we have, and just the closeness of them growing up together and playing basketball since they were younger,” she said. “And just not even a team, they’re a family.”

With fans from Borden staying to cheer on Eastern, the unity was undeniable.

“I just can’t believe that this opportunity to have both of my schools and then have them come together like this,” Kaelin said. “So, it’s amazing.”

For one Athletic Trainer, it was a reminder that community, connection, and care are just as powerful as any championship banner. This article originally appeared on Indianapolis Star: Athletic trainer Kasey Kaelin part of state titles in back-to-back games
