PBATS Names Major League Athletic Training Staff of the Year

The Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society (PBATS) has named the Toronto Blue Jays athletic training staff as the PBATS Major League Athletic Training Staff of the Year, recognizing an exceptional season defined by professionalism, collaboration, and an unwavering commitment to player health and performance.
The honor recognizes Jose Ministral, Head Athletic Trainer for the Blue Jays, along with Assistant Athletic Trainers Voon Chong and Drew MacDonald.
The award carries particular significance because it is peer-voted, with athletic trainers from all 30 Major League Baseball clubs participating in the selection process.
Each year, the PBATS Major League Athletic Training Staff of the Year Award honors a group that exemplifies the highest standards of the profession—balancing injury prevention, rehabilitation, performance support, and the trust of athletes throughout the grind of a Major League season.
The Blue Jays’ staff stood out for its collaborative approach, strong communication with players and coaches, and a consistent emphasis on long-term athlete care.
“Being recognized by your peers is the highest compliment in our profession,” said Nick Kenney, President of PBATS. “Jose, Voon, and Drew represent everything this award stands for—professional excellence, preparation, and a deep commitment to the well-being of their players. Their peers across Major League Baseball clearly recognize the impact this group has made, and PBATS is proud to honor them.”
Under Ministral’s leadership, the Blue Jays’ athletic training department has cultivated a culture rooted in trust, education, and innovation. Working closely with the club’s performance, medical, and coaching staffs, the group has played a vital role in keeping players healthy and available while supporting individualized recovery and return-to-play plans.
Chong and MacDonald have been instrumental in executing that vision daily, providing hands-on care and navigating the physical demands of a long season. Their cohesion and consistency have earned widespread respect throughout the league.
PBATS congratulates the Toronto Blue Jays athletic training staff on this well-deserved honor, which highlights the critical role Athletic Trainers play at the Major League level. Read full story here!
