For Pittsburgh Pirates head Athletic Trainer Luke Novosel, working in Major League Baseball isn't just a job—it's the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. Growing up in Western Pennsylvania, Novosel promised his grandfather that one day he would work for the Pirates. Today, he's helping keep the organization's players healthy as the club's head Athletic Trainer.
After earning degrees in exercise science, physical therapy, and Athletic Training, Novosel worked his way through professional baseball with the New York Mets before joining the Pirates organization. His unique combination of Athletic Training and physical therapy expertise has made him a valuable asset to the club.
According to Pirates Senior Director of Sports Medicine Todd Tomczyk, Novosel's ability to build relationships sets him apart. His experience as a former player allows him to understand both the physical and emotional challenges athletes face during injuries and rehabilitation.
Each day, Novosel arrives hours before first pitch to prepare individualized treatment and recovery plans for players. His goal is not only to help athletes recover from injuries but also to prevent them whenever possible.
For Novosel, the most rewarding part of the job is supporting players through difficult moments and helping them return to competition safely.
As he continues living out his dream with his hometown team, his focus remains simple: keep players healthy, support the organization, and help bring winning baseball back to Pittsburgh. Read the full story here!
