Adriana Williams’ path in Athletic Training is taking her from Savannah State to one of the most prestigious stages in football’s pre-draft process.

Williams, one of two Athletic Trainers with St. Joseph's/Candler assigned to Savannah State University, was recently selected to work the Panini Senior Bowl on January 31 in Mobile, Alabama.

The Senior Bowl, the longest continually running all-star game in football, serves as the official first step in the NFL Draft process.

“It’s a great honor,” Williams said. “I think it reflects a lot of the hard work that I’ve put in for my education, my career, my experience and my personal development.”

At Savannah State, Williams helps manage the health and wellness of nearly 350 student-athletes, providing injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation across multiple sports. Though she has been on campus just over a year, Williams brings a wide range of experience to the role.

Prior to arriving in Savannah, she gained hands-on experience with elite programs including the University of Georgia, Georgia Tech, and the Atlanta Falcons. That diverse background prepared her for the fast-paced, high-pressure environment she will encounter at the Senior Bowl.

“It’s everything that I’ve learned squeezed into one week and one event,” Williams said. “We get to use all of our skills.”

Williams’ journey into Athletic Training began in high school, where a personal connection sparked a lifelong career path.

“In high school I played volleyball, which is how I met my high school athletic trainer,” she said. “He taught a class, so that’s how I got introduced into it.”

Beyond the honor of the selection, Williams sees the Senior Bowl as a powerful opportunity for growth.

“I’ve worked with these guys and I’ve seen how they move,” she said. “I’m so excited and thankful for the opportunity.”

As she represents both Savannah State and St. Joseph’s/Candler on a national stage, Williams’ selection highlights the critical role Athletic Trainers play in athlete development at every level of the game. Read more and watch the news story here
