"Personally, this is just something that I get to do and I worked so hard. This just means so much to my family. Especially coming from a family who’s only graduated from a two-year school. This is something huge for my family. We’re all just so in shock about it and it’s a real eye-opener.”
Lawrence County Athletic Trainer Allen Walters said:
“She’ll have to be there for all practices and probably won’t travel to away games as a freshman, but she’ll assist at all home games. As she gets older, more and more avenues will open up. Probably by her sophomore or junior year, she’ll be going to both the home and away games for football and track.”
Walters, an Auburn graduate, noted that Auburn’s head physician, Dr. Michael Villa, also graduated from Lawrence County High School, which aided Terry’s placement. Walters added:
“Most all universities have some type of student trainer program where they can come in as an undergrad, do their work, and get their degree. It’s actually a big deal to be able to get one to a Power Five school like that, being from a smaller school like this.”
Terry discovered her passion for athletic training last year when Walters invited her to join the program.
“I try to open their eyes up to all the realms that fall under the sports medicine umbrella.”
Terry expressed excitement about her future at Auburn, citing her interest in the dynamic nature of athletic training.
Walters praised Auburn’s sports medicine facilities and believes Terry will benefit greatly from the cutting-edge technology available there.
Terry credits Walters for inspiring her to pursue this opportunity.
“Without him, I probably wouldn’t have ever sent that email."
