It must be baseline testing season.
Even better, it’s becoming something of an August tradition.
This marks the third consecutive year Sway has climbed the medical app rankings during this time of year, as Athletic Trainers across the country prepare athletes for another season.
For us, the timing makes the accomplishment particularly meaningful.
Late summer is one of the busiest times of the year for Athletic Trainers. Fall sports are starting, rosters are filling up, paperwork needs to be completed and hundreds of student-athletes may need preseason concussion baseline testing.
Sway Concussion was designed to make that process easier.
Rather than requiring every athlete to sit down individually at the same computer, Sway allows Athletic Trainers to conduct mobile concussion baseline testing using compatible smartphones and tablets. Multiple athletes can complete testing at the same time, helping ATs move entire teams through the baseline testing process more efficiently.
One Athletic Trainer recently told us that this approach has completely changed baseline testing at her high school.
As the only AT at her school, she can have a group of athletes test simultaneously in the hallway outside her athletic training room while she oversees the process. Results are then available to her without sorting through stacks of paperwork or checking individual athletes’ phones.
Her description of the difference was pretty simple: “We just do it in one day.”
Of course, baseline testing is only part of concussion management.
Sway gives Athletic Trainers access to objective balance and cognitive testing, symptom tracking and other concussion assessment tools from a mobile platform. Baseline results can provide valuable individual comparison data if an athlete later experiences a suspected concussion.
And because Sway is mobile, ATs can access the information they need where athlete care actually happens — including the sideline.
That matters when an Athletic Trainer is evaluating an athlete during a practice or game and doesn't have the luxury of returning to the athletic training room to find a baseline report.
Sway Concussion is an FDA-cleared Class II medical device designed to provide objective information that can be considered alongside symptoms, clinical judgment and other components of a concussion evaluation. It is not intended to diagnose a concussion on its own.
Reaching #3 on the Medical app chart is exciting.
Doing it for the third year in a row is even better.
But what we're most excited about is what those downloads represent: Athletic Trainers putting technology to work to make concussion testing and management more efficient.
So, to every AT downloading Sway, getting athletes through baseline testing and preparing for another busy season: thank you.
You helped put Sway at #3.
And we hope we're helping make your baseline season a little easier in return.
