Athletic Trainer Earns Statewide Recognition in Louisiana
Centenary College's Brandon Henschel was recently named Collegiate Athletic Trainer of the Year by the Louisiana Athletic Trainers' Association. In just his third year leading Centenary's Sports Medicine department, Henschel has already made a strong impact on student-athlete care. Prior to Centenary, he worked at the University of Louisiana Monroe, supporting multiple athletic programs. The award recognizes Athletic Trainers who demonstrate excellence in healthcare, leadership, and advancing the profession throughout Louisiana.
Elmira College Promotes a Familiar Face
Elmira College has named Maria Market its next Head Athletic Trainer following the retirement of longtime Athletic Trainer Dave Tomkalski. Market has spent the past seven years working alongside Tomkalski and has become a trusted resource for student-athletes, coaches, and staff.
Her previous experiences include roles at Arcadia University, Temple University, Chestnut Hill College, and Drexel University. As she steps into her new leadership role, Market says she's excited to continue serving a community that has become home.
A Hometown Athletic Trainer Retires After More Than 50 Years
Worthington native Joel Krekelberg is retiring after an extraordinary career spanning more than five decades. After beginning his career with the NFL's New Orleans Saints and Houston Oilers, he returned home in 1985 and spent the next 40 years serving Worthington High School and Minnesota West Community and Technical College. Known for his compassion, mentorship, and dedication to athletes, Krekelberg also taught injury prevention courses and earned numerous honors throughout his career. His retirement celebration drew former athletes, coaches, and community members whose lives he impacted both on and off the field.
