The Connecticut Sun in the WNBA are adding more than experience to their staff—they’re bringing in a proven leader in Athletic Training.

Theresa “Terri” Acosta, MS, ATC, LAT-R, has been named the team’s new Director of Health and Performance and Head Athletic Trainer, stepping into the role with an impressive résumé that spans more than 30 years.

“Terri brings an incredible level of experience and true understanding of our league,” said Connecticut Sun General Manager Morgan Tuck. “She is elite at what she does… and she leads with care, consistency, and trust.”

Acosta joins the Sun after seven seasons with the New York Liberty, where she served as Head Athletic Trainer and helped the team capture its first WNBA Championship. Her experience extends far beyond the league, including work with USA Basketball, where she contributed to the Women’s National Team’s eighth consecutive Olympic gold medal in 2024.

Her career path has also taken her through collegiate athletics, professional hockey, the XFL, and other organizations—highlighting a versatility that few in the profession can match.

For Acosta, the move is about more than just a new role.

“I am thrilled to join a team that demonstrates professionalism and respect toward every individual,” she said.

From her start as a student Athletic Trainer in high school to now leading at the professional level, Acosta’s journey reflects the impact and growth of Athletic Training at the highest levels of sport. Read the full story here
