5 Ways to Support Your Employees with their New Year Resolutions

From Wellness Habits to Remote Injury Prevention, Resolve to Prioritize Your Employees’ Goals This Year

It’s the time of year again where we’re all talking about goals, intentions, and resolutions - in the workplace and in our personal lives. In a recent study by Finder, almost 75 percent of the US adult population has set resolutions for the new calendar year, mainly focused around six categories: money, health, career, self-improvement, family, and love.

So what does that mean as an employer? If ¾ of your employees are working towards some manner of self-improvement, it’s in your best interest to help them reach those goals however you can.

Here are five ways employers of any size can help their staff better themselves (and your company as a whole!):

1. Encourage Healthy Wellness Habits:

Some of the most popular resolutions involve losing weight, eating better, and exercising more. If your employees are currently working on-site, consider stocking your break room with healthy and varied snacks, like oatmeal packets, nuts, or yogurt. If your staff is working remotely, make sure to give them time during the day to stretch, exercise, meditate, or engage in some other form of physical or mental activity that will help revitalize and motivate your team.

And by the way - don’t forget employees’ mental health! A great company resolution for 2021 is to make sure that resources and training related to mental health support are readily available and accessible for all employees. Use communication to break down mental health stigmas and promote an inclusive environment.

2. Provide Remote Injury Prevention and Care:

One thing that can quickly derail a New Year’s Resolution is an injury - particularly when it’s related to work. With Healthy Roster, you can ensure peace of mind for both you and your employees by adopting a virtual occupational telehealth platform. Not only does a program like this help employees with proactive physical and mental wellness initiatives along with robust triage services, it’ll also help your company decrease claims for minor/preventable injuries and increase satisfaction across the workforce.

With Healthy Roster’s remote occupational telehealth program, you can easily prevent and immediately triage workplace injuries with a licensed professional for any shift and at any location, no matter how small. Learn more here.

3. Launch a Wellness Program (if you haven’t already):

Not only does a wellness program help encourage preventative care and overall health at work, it can also help create a sense of fun and community that leads to higher retention and more motivated team members.

If rolling out a wellness program sounds daunting, enlist the help of a sports medicine provider trained in launching and operating successful wellness programs virtually.

By the way, before you start a wellness program, make sure it’s compliant with all local, state, and federal laws.

4. Form Connections Between Employees

When it comes to career-based resolutions, many employees go into a new year focused on improved job performance and satisfaction. Setting up virtual networking and mentoring meetings between team members will help boost overall company morale and encourage employees to collaborate safely. You can also work to make virtual meetings more interactive, which will increase focus and foster relationships.

5. Invest in Your Employee’s Financial Wellbeing

Obviously giving every employee a raise is most likely impractical, but there are a lot of other ways to help your team with holistic financial management. For example, collaborate with employees to make sure that your existing benefits packages are actually aligned with what they need (their needs may have changed due to COVID-19!). Include tangible benefits related to financial wellness, including consultations with financial advisors or debt management assistance. By proactively helping employees when it comes to finances, you’ll increase productivity and company culture.

With these tips, you should feel more prepared than ever to empower your organization this year and beyond.
