AT Abi Francisco Brings Passion and Pride to New Leadership Role at El Camino College

Abi Francisco’s dedication to athletics is as strong today as it was when she first laced up her soccer cleats in Torrance, California. Now in her tenth year as Senior Athletic Trainer at El Camino College, Francisco has stepped into a new chapter—serving as the college’s interim Athletic Director since March 10.

“I lived, breathed and slept soccer until I went to undergrad,” Francisco said, reflecting on her years as a competitive soccer player.

Abi FranciscoThat passion led her to San Diego State University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology with an emphasis in athletic training. She later earned her master’s from California Baptist University.

While Francisco expected to pursue administration later in her career, the opportunity to lead ECC’s 22 athletic programs came sooner than anticipated.

“I get to hold a deeper sense of pride with us, with the community, LA and the college itself and its athletic program,” she said.

Her transition has been smooth, thanks to her reputation for authenticity and care.

“She really cares and it’s authentic,” said Warriors baseball coach Grant Palmer. “It’s been a seamless transition.”

Francisco’s background includes experience at Compton College and The Walt Disney Company, where she supported performers and athletes alike. Now, she embraces the broader responsibilities of administration.

“It’s fun and interesting to see this side of athletics, instead of exclusively the medical side,” she said.

Colleagues like CJ Arnold admire her consistency:

“Her hard work, attention to detail, passion and just her energy—you can pick up on that.”

As Francisco looks ahead, she’s committed to building on ECC’s rich athletic legacy.

“We’ve had a good amount of professional athletes come from El Camino. I want to keep the legend going—and whatever I can do to be a part of that, I’ll do it.”
