AT Haufschild Brings Expertise to Pipestone County Medical Center

Articles for Athletic Trainers and News StoriesNew Pipestone County Medical Center Athletic Trainer Jeff Haufschild was busy during last Friday’s softball doubleheader at Paulsen Field.

Jeff HaufschildHaufschild first tended to an Edgerton/SW Minnesota Christian player’s bloody nose and then assisted a Pipestone Area Schools player on his training table near the Arrows’ dugout.

Haufschild began his role on May 3, during a baseball doubleheader between Pipestone and St. James Area. In a PCMC press release, they stated: 

“Jeff brings five years of experience working with athletes, coaches, parents, and medical professionals to our team. We look forward to seeing Jeff’s positive impact on the lives of student-athletes here in Pipestone County.”

PCMC is managed by the Avera healthcare system based in Sioux Falls, S.D.

In an interview, Haufschild expressed his familiarity with small-town communities:

“I wanted to stay with a small-town community, something I am familiar with.”

He previously spent nearly five years with the Prairie Lakes Healthcare System in Watertown, S.D., where he worked with a team of professionals.

Haufschild grew up in Lake Norden, S.D., and was a three-sport athlete at Arlington High School. He initially pursued engineering at the University of North Dakota but transferred to South Dakota State University to study athletic training.

“I wanted to be around sports, and work with kids."

At SDSU, he gained experience with the Jackrabbit track and field and women’s basketball programs and worked with several high schools. He graduated in 2019 and entered the workforce shortly after.

In Pipestone, Haufschild is the sole Athletic Trainer for the Arrows. He relishes the opportunity to create his own routines, said:

“I needed a change of scenery, and it’s a good fit for me.”

Haufschild’s responsibilities include injury care, rehabilitation plans, supervising practices and games, and providing guidance on nutrition.

In his spare time, Haufschild enjoys working with electronics, building computers, and outdoor activities like disc golf and fishing.
