How Athletic Trainers Are Using the Healthy Roster EMR

You don't always have time to check Reddit. Sometimes, we do.

ChatGPT Image Sep 10, 2026, 10_42_32 AMAnd after recently finding a conversation about how Athletic Trainers are using Sway during sideline concussion evaluations, we got curious.

What are Athletic Trainers saying about the Healthy Roster EMR when we're not the ones asking?

So we kept reading.

What we found wasn't a list of features or a comparison chart. It was Athletic Trainers talking to other Athletic Trainers about documentation, communication, workflows, and some creative ways they're using their EMR.

A few comments caught our attention.

“It's cut charting time literally more than half for us.”

Documentation takes time. So when one AT described the impact of customizing SOAP notes in the Healthy Roster EMR, we noticed.

In a Reddit conversation about high school EMR systems, the AT explained that customizable SOAP notes had “cut charting time literally more than half for us.”

That's not how we'd normally describe a feature on a product page.

It's much better.

It's an Athletic Trainer explaining to another AT what the feature actually changed in their day.

Parents, Physicians and the Entire Care Team

The same discussion brought up another recurring theme: communication.

One Athletic Trainer said they “personally love” Healthy Roster and highlighted the parent interface, including the ability for parents to upload physicals and doctors' notes, comment on injury status, and message the Athletic Trainer.

Another mentioned how much their team physician liked having access to the system, particularly when questions from parents came up.

Elsewhere on Reddit, Athletic Trainers have discussed using Healthy Roster to keep members of the athlete's care team connected, including providing appropriate access to coaches and healthcare providers.

An Athletic Training EMR isn't just where documentation lives. It can also help Athletic Trainers securely communicate with athletes and parents, coordinate care, manage forms, and keep appropriate members of an athlete's care team informed.

For some ATs, it's also becoming part of how everyone involved in an athlete's care stays on the same page.

Keeping Your Personal Number Personal

Here's another benefit we don't talk about nearly as often.

An Athletic Trainer discussing communication with high school athletes mentioned using Healthy Roster as an alternative to giving athletes their personal phone number.

That's a pretty simple thing.

But for an Athletic Trainer trying to maintain professional boundaries while still remaining accessible to athletes and parents, it's not necessarily a small thing.

Secure communication inside the EMR provides another way to stay connected without turning an AT's personal phone into the Athletic Training room.

An Appointment-Based Athletic Training Room?

This might have been our favorite unexpected use.

In a conversation about work-life balance, one Athletic Trainer described moving their Athletic Training clinic to an appointment-based system using Healthy Roster.

Their unsolicited assessment of the platform?

“This is not a plug for the company but they are amazing lol.”

We'll take it.

More importantly, it's another example of something we probably wouldn't have thought to put on a feature sheet.

The Athletic Trainer wasn't talking about software.

They were talking about creating boundaries, managing their workload, and changing the way athletes accessed their care.

The EMR simply helped them do it.

Five Features. Five Completely Different Problems.

That's what we found most interesting about these conversations.

One Athletic Trainer was trying to document faster.

Another wanted better communication with parents and physicians.

Another didn't want to hand out a personal phone number.

Another wanted the entire care team connected.

And another was trying to create a more manageable way to run their Athletic Training room.

Different problems. Different workflows.

The same EMR.

And that's why we'll probably keep checking Reddit every once in a while.

We can tell you what we designed the Healthy Roster EMR to do.

Sometimes it's much more interesting to see what Athletic Trainers decide to do with it.

What Are You Doing With Your Healthy Roster EMR?

Now we're curious.

Have you found a workflow, feature, shortcut, or completely unexpected way of using the Healthy Roster EMR that makes your day easier?

We'd love to hear about it.
