Jeremy Johnson Named Kentucky High School Athletic Trainer of the Year
Jeremy Johnson, the dedicated Athletic Trainer at Boyle County High School, has been honored as the High School Athletic Trainer of the Year by the Kentucky Athletic Trainers’ Society (KATS).
Recognized at the KATS annual meeting in Louisville earlier this summer, Johnson expressed his gratitude for the award:
“It’s a big honor.”
Johnson is now beginning his 15th year at Boyle, where he has become an integral part of the school’s athletic program.
Initially, Johnson aspired to work at the collegiate level, aiming to join a major college football program. However, after spending a year as a trainer at a South Carolina high school and gaining experience in college athletics, he realized that the collegiate environment wasn’t the right fit for him.
“It’s just more of a business. It doesn’t seem conducive to family life, and I didn’t want to do it.”
Returning to his alma mater, Johnson took over the role from his mentor, Joan Mann, and has since embraced the demanding schedule that comes with Boyle’s successful sports programs. He likes the school’s winning culture.
“Some places you lose early and you get more time off... and that’s just not me.”
In addition to his work with Boyle sports, Johnson teaches an athletic training class and has inspired several students to pursue careers in the field.
He also serves on the KATS executive council, contributing to the advancement of athletic training in Kentucky.
