Athletic Training Articles and News Stories

Mount Mercy University Athletic Trainer Pamela Westendorf has been named the Heart Athletic Trainer of the Year, recognizing her outstanding commitment to student-athlete care, professional leadership, and service to the athletic training profession.

The award honors NATA-certified Athletic Trainers who distinguish themselves through exemplary personal conduct and exceptional healthcare service to athletes. As the Heart of America Athletic Conference recipient, Westendorf will now represent the conference as its nominee for the NAIA National Athletic Trainer of the Year Award, with national recipients to be announced later this year.

At Mount Mercy, Westendorf has earned a reputation for providing comprehensive care that extends beyond physical injuries. She is recognized for supporting student-athletes through the mental and emotional challenges that often accompany rehabilitation, helping athletes navigate recovery with compassion and encouragement.

Westendorf's impact also reaches beyond her own campus. She has served as the athletic trainer coordinator for the Heart Softball Championship, helping create a professional and welcoming environment for student-athletes, coaches, and fellow Athletic Trainers throughout the conference. Her efforts have helped ensure participating teams receive the medical resources and support needed to compete safely.

Colleagues also recognize Westendorf for her positive attitude, high energy, and ability to make every student-athlete feel welcome in the athletic training room. Those qualities, combined with her dedication to service and leadership, have made her a respected figure throughout the conference.

Her selection as Heart Athletic Trainer of the Year reflects not only her daily commitment to athlete health and safety but also the broader impact she continues to make on the athletic training profession across the NAIA. Read more here!
