Elbert Lassiter, a football officiating booking agent who was in attendance, praised the quick actions of the staff:
“The Athletic Trainer and the others did an amazing job. Everything worked the way it should have worked.”
Reid, a relatively new official from Burlington, quickly recovered and was not transported to the hospital. His condition improved on-site with the help of acquaintances who arrived soon after.
Todd Davis, athletics director for the Alamance-Burlington School System, emphasized the importance of having trained professionals like Howlett present:
“The fact that we have those people who are knowledgeable and know what to do is huge.”
After the incident, the game resumed with a replacement official. Despite the scary situation, Lassiter commended the staff:
“Everything turned out as good as it could.”
