OSU Football Stars Thank Their Athletic Trainers

Articles for Athletic Trainers and News StoriesEveryone knows the high stakes involved in Division 1 college football. And the impact of injuries ono those games can make or break a whole season, when it comes to making the playoffs. Two recent incidents involving the Ohio State Buckeyes helped underscore the pivotal role of Athletic Trainers in helping these student athletes.

In the game against Maryland, wide receiver Emeka Egbuka made an 8-yard completion before being tackled on the sideline. He limped away, attempting to return to his sideline. Unfortunately, halfway across, he dropped to the turf with an apparent left knee contusion.

Athletic Trainers were quick to assist, guiding him to the tent for an immediate assessment. Although he emerged after a short while, attempting to work through the discomfort on an exercise bike, he wasn't able to return to the game. However, the OSU staff believes he'll be ready to play again in the next game.

ATs Help OSU Athletes Recover and Return to PlaySimilarly, Marvin Harrison Jr., a pivotal player for the Buckeyes, found himself hurt when he got rolled up on against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Describing his ankle sprain as more severe compared to a previous one, Harrison attributed his recovery to the support and guidance of the athletic training staff.

Later in the game, Harrison was able to step back in against the Terrapins, even leading all receivers with some seriously impressive stats!

His resilience was amazing, but he was quick to thank the one who helped him return.

It's worth noting that Athletic Trainer Adam Stewart experimented with different tape jobs on Harrison's ankle, optimizing for both mobility and recovery after his injury against Notre Dame.

These injuries — and seeing some of the athletes' return to play — highlight the amazing contributions of ATs to help get the players game-ready and keep them in the game.

And even with the talent that Harrison demonstrates every week, he was still quick to thank the dedicated support system behind him.

As many of us here at Healthy Roster are from Ohio, we're big fans of the Buckeyes. So we wanted to give a shoutout those helping some of our favorite players!

Their interventions, expertise, and dedication make sure that the athletes we love watching on the field can give their best.

Thanks for all that you do!
