Scott Doberstein to Be Inducted into WATA Hall of Fame

After decades of dedication to Athletic Training, education, and research, Scott Doberstein is set to receive one of the profession’s highest honors in Wisconsin.

Screenshot 2026-04-16 085440The former University of Wisconsin-La Crosse head Athletic Trainer will be inducted into the Wisconsin Athletic Trainers’ Association (WATA) Hall of Fame on April 15 at the organization’s Annual Meeting and Symposium in Oshkosh.

Doberstein’s career spans more than three decades, marked by leadership, teaching, and a deep commitment to advancing Athletic Training. After earning his undergraduate degree from UW-La Crosse and a master’s from Eastern Illinois University, he began his career at Millikin University before returning to UW-La Crosse in 1998.

There, he served as head Athletic Trainer for 16 years—the longest tenure in program history—while also building an impressive legacy as an educator. Doberstein has taught more than 25 courses across multiple healthcare disciplines and mentored countless students through research and clinical education.

His impact extends far beyond the classroom. Doberstein has delivered more than 30 professional presentations and contributed to over 100 published manuscripts and abstracts. He also chaired the WATA Student Education Committee and has served as an NFL athletic trainer spotter since 2018.

Over the years, his work has been recognized with numerous honors, including the WATA Distinguished Service Award and Outstanding Educator Award.
