Titans’ Longtime Athletic Trainer Retires, Matt Gregg to Take Over
The Tennessee Titans continue their offseason overhaul, extending beyond the front office and coaching staff to include key changes in their sports medicine department.
After a storied 35-year career in the NFL, Vice President of Sports Medicine Todd Toriscelli is retiring, leaving behind a legacy that has shaped the profession.
“Being a head trainer for 35 years, as much as I’ve enjoyed it, it’s just time for me,” Toriscelli told Jim Wyatt. “I’ll be 64 in a month, and we work about 90 hours a week during the season. People keep asking me what I am going to do, and I honestly don’t know because I’ve never been able to do anything.”
Toriscelli’s impact on the Titans has been significant since joining the organization as Director of Sports Medicine in 2014. He was promoted to Vice President in 2022 and received the NFL Outstanding Athletic Trainer of the Year Award for the 2022-23 season.
His career also includes 17 years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and collegiate stints at Stanford, Miami (Fla.), and Kansas State.
Although he is stepping away, his influence will continue to be felt across the league. Six current NFL head Athletic Trainers began their careers under his mentorship.
Filling Toriscelli’s role is veteran Athletic Trainer Matt Gregg, who has been with the Titans for nine seasons, including the past six as Associate Head Athletic Trainer.
Gregg now steps into the lead role, ensuring continuity in the Titans’ medical operations. Check out the full story here!
