Athletic Trainer Janine Greco Keeps Wellington Athletes Healthy Year-Round

Articles for Athletic Trainers and News Stories

For Wellington High School Athletic Trainer Janine Greco, helping student-athletes succeed goes far beyond responding to injuries during games.

Janine-GrecoSince joining Wellington High School's varsity athletic programs last November, Greco has focused on keeping athletes healthy, preventing injuries, and helping them safely return to play when injuries occur.

She is one of 13 Athletic Trainers provided to Palm Beach County schools through Baptist Health, which partners closely with orthopedic physicians to support student-athlete care.

Greco's passion for Athletic Training began during her college years. After playing rugby and earning an undergraduate degree at Binghamton University, she went on to complete a master's degree in kinesiology with an emphasis in sports medicine.

"I love science, sports and helping people," Greco said. "I took 'Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries' my sophomore year in college, and I was so hooked that I started the program the next semester."

Her day-to-day responsibilities include everything from taping ankles and managing rehabilitation exercises to educating athletes about hydration and communicating with parents. She regularly evaluates a wide range of injuries, including sprains, strains, concussions, fractures, and dislocations.

Greco also emphasized that Athletic Trainers play an important role in supporting mental health by connecting students with guidance counselors and serving as mandatory reporters when necessary.

During football season, her responsibilities increase even more, as she attends every practice and game alongside the Wolverines.

Wellington football coach Pete Walker praised Greco's impact on the program.

"She is vital to the team," Walker said. "She does a great job diagnosing if our players need to be on the field or if they need to be shut down."

Even during summer break, Greco continues providing injury checks, rehabilitation services, and community outreach. Her work serves as another reminder that Athletic Trainers are year-round healthcare professionals dedicated to keeping athletes healthy, safe, and performing at their best.
