Matt Gregg’s Quiet Rise to Titans Director of Sports Medicine

In professional football, some of the most important work happens quietly, far from the spotlight. For Matt Gregg, that has defined his career. After ten seasons with the Tennessee Titans, Gregg recently completed his first year as Director of Sports Medicine, a role that reflects years of steady dedication and earned trust.
Gregg’s journey began in Lewistown, Pennsylvania, where he learned discipline and responsibility through sports, especially wrestling.
“Growing up as an athlete in Lewistown definitely helped shape the way I think,” Gregg said.
He credits his coaches and parents for instilling perseverance and accountability.
“They never pushed me to do anything that I didn’t want to do,” he said, “but once I committed to something, they provided me with the opportunity and encouragement to see it through to the end.”
After earning his undergraduate degree in athletic training at Duquesne University and a master’s in kinesiology from LSU, Gregg steadily built his career through internships and hands-on experience, eventually joining the Titans. His rise—from assistant athletic trainer to associate head athletic trainer, and now director—was gradual and grounded in preparation.
“I don’t think there was a specific moment that the responsibility felt different,” Gregg said.
As a leader, Gregg emphasizes culture, teamwork, and shared standards.
“A majority of our current sports medicine staff here started as interns and learned the job and expectations here from the ground up,” he said. “No job is too small.”
Gregg believes patience is essential, both in the profession and in life.
“You have to be patient with learning the process,” he said. “You can’t skip steps.”
For Gregg, success often means nothing happens—no injuries, no setbacks, just players staying healthy and performing at their best. Read the full story here!
