Articles for Athletic Trainers and News Stories

After nearly ten years of dedicated service to the Indian Hills Athletic Department, head Athletic Trainer Kristin Mayson has announced that she will step down from her role.

"Kristin Mayson has been an invaluable part of Indian Hills Athletics for the past nine years," said athletic director Kelsi Weeks. "Her dedication, expertise, and unwavering care for our student-athletes set the standard in athletic training. While we're sad to see her go, we're incredibly grateful for her service and wish her nothing but success in this next chapter."

Under her leadership, the staff grew to include three full-time assistant Athletic Trainers and welcomed the program’s first-ever therapy dog, Mack.

Each year, Mayson oversaw care for more than 300 student-athletes across 19 athletic programs, while also spearheading the school’s head injury return-to-play protocols.

Her leadership earned national recognition in 2020 when she was named the inaugural National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Athletic Trainer of the Year. She also played a vital role during the 2019–20 season in guiding the Warriors through the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Beyond athletics, Mayson served as Program Director of the Sports Medicine program and as a full-time instructor. Her efforts extended to campus-wide initiatives, including helping secure a full-time mental health counselor for students.

Over the years, Mayson worked closely with the volleyball and basketball programs and served thousands of athletes during her tenure. Her legacy at Indian Hills will be defined by her tireless advocacy for student-athlete health and her lasting contributions to the department’s growth and success. Read more here!
