Two Athletic Trainers Working Hard and Giving the Best Care Possible!

Athletic-Training-News-Banner-SM

Athletic Trainers have been in the news a few times throughout 2023 — mostly for high-profile, life-saving events — but we found a great story that simply covers the day-to-day of two ATs in Ohio. And we wanted to share!

Matallyn Overmyer AT at HeidelbergIn the article, the Advertiser-Tribune author focused his attention on Athletic Trainers Lucas Phillips at Tiffin University and Matallyn Overmyer at Heidelberg University and the hard work they're putting in to keep their student-athletes healthy.

Phillips had a great way to describe the profession:

"Athletic training is kind of the behind-the-scenes of sports. We're there for injury prevention, hydration, rehab, post-injury, and post-surgery. We do a little bit of everything – a jack of all trades.”

And Overmyer's typical day seems spot-on for many Athletic Trainers:

“My days and weeks are never the same. We could work six days a week or never have an off day for weeks. Some days we work four hours and others – more often than not – we work  ten to twelve.

Our day typically is providing clinic coverage including rehabilitation and therapeutic treatment sessions, injury evaluations, and then we get ready for practice coverage and then stay for roughly 30 minutes after to make sure our patients don't need anything.

Athletic Trainers wear a lot of hats and a big one we focus on is making sure our patients are safe and healthy by being available to them.”

So, please read more from the article about these unsung heroes, like you, who are out their helping their community. You rarely get to see many day-in-the-life stories like this one!

Also, we've got our own series — Athletic Trainer of the Week — where we help get the word out on you and your stories, as well. Stories we feel need to be told! And if you have someone in mind for AT of the Week, go here and let us know about them!
