The EHS Daily Advisor put out a 2021 survey "The State of Safety and Beyond" that really caught our attention. Have you seen it? Read more here. Take a quick look at their results:
They gathered insights from 314 EHS professionals on how their orgs are handling current safety challenges and those of the future.
Several questions covered safety culture - including how they would rate their company.
- 18% — excellent
- 64% — good
- 16% — below average
- 2% — poor
And leadership support was also a major factor - when asked about their organization, they responded:
- 40% said very committed to supporting a strong safety culture
- 36% said leadership was sufficiently committed
- 20% said it was somewhat committed
- 4% said their leadership was not committed
But their top challenges to building a safety culture were fascinating:
- Engaging and motivating employees (72%)
- Balancing production pressures with safety efforts (59%)
- Getting supervisor cooperation (45%)
- Providing effective training (34%)
- Employee unwillingness to follow rules (31%)
- Getting support from C-suite or upper management (26%)
- Measuring safety performance (26%)
